Cold Call Friendly Phone Book Template

for all who are interested in being part of the CCFP you have a few options

Cold Call Friendly Phone Book.

Part of my time has been dedicated to forming an idiosyncratic phone book of phone numbers consisting of individuals who reside in both Los Angeles and Chicago. The CCFPB is in conjunction to the Los Cago Bridge of Artistic Goodwill. This crude social networking device will help to create a new web of interactions and collaborations. The intention is to ask a number of open participants, receive submission’s and activate the book, in which friendly strangers will begin to call other friendly strangers.

The first edition of this project will exist as a small photocopied zine which we will distribute once we have received adequate submissions, probably at the end of April.

If you wish to participate there are a few options.

1. You can simply email me, or send a message attached to this post and include your phone number in the body specifying that you would like to be included in the phone book.

2. use the attached template, and email it to me.

3. you can make your own template, or fold a 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper in half so that it is a two page spread, 8.5 x 5.5. Illustrate the spread however your heart desires, including numbers and names of five friends, more or less. you can describe your friends and include pictures of them if you’d like.

***Be sure to ask your friends permission to be part of this project. once the book has accumulated a number of pages we’ll photocopy it and hand it out to the contributors. Please also include a mailing address so that i can send you a copy of the phone book.

Los Cago Bridge of Artistic Goodwill’s Cold Call Friendly Phone Book

2008

Thank you for your interest in the Cold Call Friendly Phone Book produced in Chicago Illinois during the month of March 2008. My name is Michael Gerald Bauer and it is my pleasure to organize the Phone Book in conjunction to the Los Cago Open House, Bridge of Artist Goodwill, a project commencing here during my month long residency at InCUBate and hopefully in perpetuity. I say in perpetuity because the intention is not to simply make something here in Chicago and bring it home with me but to make a little idea called an Artistic Bridge and leave some of the great people of Chicago a bucket full of ideas for us to plant in the future with fellow Los Angelenos! This book is a hodgepodge of individuals who reside both in LA and Chicago. Let this be a beautiful beginning, a melting pot of friendly strangers!

What is the Friendly Phone Book? It is simply a publication of friends and individuals who have agreed to receive phone calls from other strangers, with the hope that such a gesture would foster new unexpected creative interactions.

As a way to evade failure I like to always cite things as a work in progress, and with that in mind this is happily the first edition of the phone book and is completely open to future submissions, comments, suggestions and re-workings. I look forward to making a second edition. The pre-first edition exists as a scrappy zine, which in certain ways is delightful but in other ways nearly illegible and sloppy. Thus I attempted to transcribe all submissions to the best of my ability, word for word, punctuation and flourishes intact with the hope that a typed version would render itself more useful and approachable. Any inquiring minds please email me!

Helpful Hints when using the Cold Call Friendly Phone Book.

1. If you call a person who has no knowledge of being part of the book please let them know the intention of this project, maybe read them the introductory pages and how you acquired a copy of the CCFP.
2. Here are some questions you can ask the friendly stranger when trying to initiate conversation:
A. What are you having for dinner?
B. Describe your current surroundings.
C. What do you imagine the future being like?
D. What is something you are passionate about?
E. Do you have a day job?
F. What is one of your dreams?
